Psalm 44:1 “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.”

Like David, and Israel, America has a spiritual heritage with God. Our founding fathers gave many accounts of how God moved and blessed as our nation was born out of war and oppression. God has truly blessed our country.

David had also heard from his father’s about their heritage. How God did so many great works to establish them as a nation. But now, David is going through some very difficult times. It seems that the Lord has forsaken them, and that perhaps they are even facing the judgment of God. It would certainly be a temptation during those times to take matters into your own hands, and to abandon God.

Yet, for David, his faith in God was personal. His faith didn’t hinge on the door of convenience, but on the door of conviction. He didn’t follow God because it was to his advantage, but because He is God. David wasn’t a fair weather believer, he was sold out for God, and would not compromise his integrity with God.

How about you, are you a fair weather Christian? Do you serve the Lord because it is to your advantage, or because He is God? If the Lord were to remove His hand of blessing from you, would you continue to serve Him because of your convictions?

Lord, you are Sovereign, and I am nothing. Who am I that you should regard me at all? Yet, Lord, I desire to serve you, because you alone are worthy.

Psalm 44:17-18 “All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way…”
